Get ready for Headington winter lights

The trees lining Headington’s main shopping street will be illuminated on 19 November to coincide with Oxford’s Christmas Light Festival. Residents will be dusting off their Christmas lights in other parts of the neighbourhood, too.

The London Road shopping area lights will be switched on in advance of Headington’s main celebration on 4 December.

In central Oxford, the Christmas light switch-on on Friday evening will kick off a number of events, including a large-scale illumination to celebrate the 950th anniversary of Oxford Castle, a Victorian market on Broad Street and Gloucester Green and a dance and sound performance at the Old Fire Station.

In addition to the city centre events, this year’s festival will feature four main festival neighbourhood hubs at Rose Hill, Cowley, Blackbird Leys and Cutteslowe, where buildings, parks, streets and houses will be illuminated with light creations accompanied by sound, movement and interactive play.

Following on from the success of last year’s Festival of Light, Highfield residents will also switch on their lights at 6pm on Friday 19 November and will no doubt be joined by residents in other parts of the neighbourhood.
